Near East Yeniboğaziçi College offers French as a second foreign language with the awareness that a student with a second language is always a step ahead in the international arena. Students who choose French as a second foreign language at the beginning of the 6th grade can continue to study the French course in the high school. Sustaining our claim of achieving the highest success in foreign language exams, we not only prepare our students for DELF but also for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams.
In compliance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages, our students are prepared for DELF (Diploma in French Language Studies), which is an official diploma issued by the French Ministry of Education. A1, A2, B1 and B2 levels of the DELF exam correspond to the levels specified in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). French language studies, which are tailored to help the students gain reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, are supported with preparation courses and mock exams.
In the preparation courses for the DELF exam, students study the methodology, vocabulary and themes specific to DELF exams while improving their knowledge of grammar and ability to communicate. Under the guidance of their highly competent teachers, students work on and develop the 4 skills (oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production and written production) tested on exam day in May. The outstanding success achieved by our students in DELF exams and IGCSE French language exams thus far is very notable and a clear indicator reflecting the quality of education offered by the Near East Yeniboğaziçi College. The diplomas and certificates awarded as a result of success in these exams are internationally valid and recognised qualifications. These certificates are also important for students' resumes.
The French Institute of Cyprus in collaboration with the TRNC Ministry of Education and Culture annually organizes many events during the Francophonie month. By participating in the competitions held during the Francophonie month, we have achieved many ranks so far.
In addition to academic studies, social activities in French are also held at our school in order to improve the social and cultural aspects of our students. In this context, our French Club students work under the guidance of their teachers throughout the academic year and prepare a musical theatre play and share their skills with their parents and friends via a stage performance at the end of each academic year.
